12-Stitch Brioche Braided Cable

This braided cable involves 12 stitches
beginning with a “knit column” and
ending with a “slipped yarn over column”
on the RS.

In the first cable row, a 4x4 cable is worked,
using the first eight stitches of the 11 involved,
by placing 4 stitches onto cable needle
behind the work.
Work the next 4 stitches in pattern,
then work the 4 stitches in pattern
from the cable needle. Work the last
4 stitches in pattern. Mark this row.

Work in pattern until you can count six
rows in knit column on RS including
the marked row. Then work the second
cable braid over the same 12 stitches,
again a 4x4 cable. First work 4 stitches
in pattern, then place the middle four
stitches onto a cable needle and hold
them to the front of the work, work
4 stitches in pattern, then work the
4 stitches from the cable needle in
pattern. Repeat from first cable after
12 RS knit column rows have been
worked including the marked row.
