Making 2-Stitch Increases in One Row Using More than One Color

To maintain the integrity of the brioche
stitch, increases should be worked in
pairs of stitches - adding one “yf sl1yo”
stitch and one “brk” stitch.

When working with more than one
color, designate a ‘column’ of knit
stitches on the right side (public side)

of the work for placement of the
increase. This will be referred to as the
marked stitch or marked column. Then
work the increase using the MC.

On the row following an increase
row
, using a CC color, be sure to
maintain the pattern.

SIMPLE INCREASE- brkyobrk
Two stitches spring out of the center of
one stitch (the marked stitch) with this
increase.

increase in color

One simple increase made in one stitch.

In the marked st on RS: with MC,
work a brkyobrk as follows: brk1, yo
(yarn forward under needle then over
needle to back), then brk1 into same
stitch. 2 sts inc’d.

On a RS row following an increase
row, using a CC color,
be sure
to maintain the pattern by working
(sl1yof, p1, sl1yof) over the three
stitches that branch out of the
increased marked stitch.

Left-Slant 2-Row 2-St Inc (inc’d sts branch out to the left):

inc’d; 2 MC knit sts are laying next to each other.
Next inc Row: (RS; CC) Work to double MC sts, sl1yof, pick up from row below
a CC yarnover and p1, sl1yof, cont in patt—1 stitch inc’d this row; 2 sts inc’d total.

Right-Slant 2-Row 2-St Inc (inc’d sts branch out to the right):
1st inc Row: (RS; MC) Work to marked st, pick up and knit 1 st from the row
below marked st, brk1 (this would be the marked st plus its yo), cont in patt -
1 st inc’d; 2 MC knit sts next to each other.
