2-Color Half Brioche

flat brioche stitch

2-color Half Brioche - Right side
2-color Half Brioche - Wrong side

Use either circular or double-pointed needles to avoid having to cut threads.
This stitch works up to a beautifully firm fabric and not as thick as the plain
brioche stitch. It should be worked on needles smaller than those recommended
for the yarn.
My colors: color A = ecru, color B = grey.

To begin, loosely cast on (long tail over 2 needles) an even number of sts in
color A. Do not turn work.
Row 1 WS color B: slide work to other tip of needle. *yf sl1yo, k1; rep from *.
Row 2 RS color A: *p1, brk1; rep from *. Do not turn work.
Row 3 RS color B: slide work to other tip of needle. *p1, sl1yof; rep from *.
Row 4 WS color A: *brp1, k1; rep from *. Do not turn work.
Rep Rows 1 through 4.

3-Color Half Brioche Stitch

flat brioche 2

3-color Half Brioche - Right side 3-color Half Brioche - Wrong side

For this sample I followed the instructions of the half brioche stitch but
alternated colors A, B and C. Your yarns will be hanging on the correct side of
the work so you will not have to do any sliding.
My colors: color A = ecru, color B = grey, color C = turquoise

To begin, loosely cast on (long tail over 2 needles) an even number of sts in
color A.
Row 1 WS: color B, *yf sl1yo, k1; rep from *.
Row 2 RS: color C, *p1, brk1; rep from *.
Repeat Rows 1-2 working one row in color A, then one row in color B and then
one row in color C, one row in color A, one row in color B, etc.

This variation would also be interesting if you used two different colors for the
‘purl’ columns and stuck to one color for the ‘knit’ columns. It should be worked
on needles smaller than those recommended for the yarn.
My colors: color A = ecru, color B = grey.
