Making Cables in Brioche Stitch

Adding cables to the brioche stitch can
be very time-consuming and difficult to
maneuver. But with practice, you can
create interesting undulating lines by
experimenting with your favorite cable
patterns.

When adding cables to brioche, keep
in mind that the knit columns need to

be shifted. It’s best to shift only two
knit columns at a time, as a cable cuts
down on the elasticity of the fabric and
can interfere with its drape.

On the row following a cable row,
be sure to follow the brioche pattern
carefully over the cabled stitches to
maintain the pattern.

Simple Brioche Cable
Work a right to left crossover over
three sts on RS: (last worked st is a
yf sl1yo), place first st onto a cable
needle to front, foll st onto second
cable needle to back, foll st brk1, then
work yf sl1yo on stitch from second
cable needle, then work brk1 on stitch
from first cable needle, this is a right
to left crossover.

For the above sample, work 2 rows
plain brioche and repeat the right to
left crossover.
